War (Chapter 2)

“What’s happening?” The teenage boy called to her once more, “Is it bad?”

“Shut up, let me fix this,” Shocks snapped a bit harsher than she intended, “I mean be quiet; here, give me my necklace, I need my necklace…”

“Okay..” Her boyfriend told her as he reached inside his blue and green hoodie, pulled out his girlfriend’s lightning bolt necklace, and threw it at her, “Here, behind you!”

“Thank you!” The teenage girl replied as she quickly reached up a hand to catch the necklace; she put the necklace on and closed the silver clasp, “You’ll have to help me a bit if and when I need it, do you promise to do so?”

She peered back at the other teen and, after seeing him nod briefly, she spoke once more, “Good..”

“What do you want me to do?” Jaeger asked in a worried but still curious manner.

“Come closer…” Shocks instructed sharply, “I can shield you better without having to use all my power at once…”

The teen did as he was told and somehow dragged himself over to his girlfriend, his usually colorful face tinted with a light green from the pain.

“There you go; here, let me help.” The other teen pulled her boyfriend to his feet and wrapped an arm around him to prevent him from falling and to steady him.

“What else do you want me to do?” Jaeger choked through clenched off-white teeth, “Anything else?”

“No, you’re hurt.” Shocks whispered in her boyfriend’s ear as she kissed his blonde head, “You’ll be ok, trust me.”

And, as the Demons approached again, Shocks’s shield went up once, its blinding light casting drastic shadows behind the two teens.

“You sure?” Jaeger managed to sputter through the pain which filled him, “I mean I don’t know…”

“Trust me,” His girlfriend replied and at her boyfriend’s pained expression, a bolt of lightning slid down her paw and wrapped itself briefly around Jaeger’s injured leg, “That ought to do it.”

Her boyfriend looked down at his injured leg; he couldn’t help but notice how the pain started to ebb away and the brilliant white light that flickered around it when he moved it.

“It doesn’t hurt much at all anymore, Shocks.” He exclaimed in sudden surprise, “I can barely feel my injury.”

“That’s my healing powers for you,” The teenage girl replied, her reddish-black hair billowing in the breeze, “I need most of my powers to shield us from the Demons and/or defeat them altogether, I did, however, use some to take your pain away…”

“Thank you,” Jaeger whispered softly as his girlfriend concentrated on her powers, “Thanks a truckload…”

“No problem,” Shocks mouthed as she gripped his shoulder lovingly, “Now to defeat these pesky Demons.”

She flinched heavily as one of the stronger Demons found a way around her shield.

“Close your eyes again.” Shocks instructed her boyfriend as the Demon steadily approached the two teens, “And don’t move.”

Jaeger obeyed once more, grinding his teeth in sudden pain; the pain in his leg had started to return due to his girlfriend’s shield wearing down.

He inhaled sharply and nearly collapsed from the overwhelming pain.

“Sorry,” His girlfriend muttered half-heartedly, “I know you’re hurt.”

“Watch out,” Jaeger growled as he opened his eyes and pushed his girlfriend out of the way of the Demon which had leapt at them, its teeth bared in a vicious, bloodthirsty snarl, “Shocks, move!”

Shocks watched in horror as her injured boyfriend battled the Demon; he wasn’t very strong to begin with and Shocks knew he wouldn’t survive the attack if she didn’t step in and come to his defense in the next couple seconds.

“Jaeger!” She cried shrilly as she leapt between the Demon and her boyfriend, “Here…”
